How to plan your site structure

Updated March 20, 2026

Start by thinking about what a first-time visitor wants to know. Many people make the mistake of creating too many pages right away, but honestly, a home page, an about page, a contact page, and one or two content pages is a perfectly solid starting point.

What matters more than the number of pages is the flow of information. Your home page should communicate who you are and what you offer, then guide visitors to the next logical step with a clear button or link. From there, each page should answer a specific question or serve a specific purpose. You can always add more sections later once you see how visitors actually use your site — that's far more efficient than guessing up front.
